September Newsletter! 🎂
Happy My Birthday Month!Â
Yes, I'll turn another year older on the 17th, but you are also invited to eat cake any/every other day of September in celebration! I am very generous with my birthday spirit, thank you for noticing. Do you know what would be the greatest birthday present you could get me this year? A pre-order of my book, Love from Scratch!
What I'm Writing
The past month has been a little change of pace for me, writing-wise! I turned in a draft of book two, Not Here to Stay Friends, to my editor and am excited to get her feedback on it and dive in to revisions soon. But while waiting on those and with not a lot left for me to do with Love from Scratch (aside from asking you to buy it xoxo) for now, I've had some freedom to work on something totally different! I'm always nervous to say much about a project before I'm very far into it/sure I can finish it (lol), but the book-ish thing I've been tinkering with is one I started last summer before LFS sold. I abandoned it for about a year while working on things in the definitely-getting-published pipeline, but it's been fun giving this story another shot! It's my first attempt at an ~adult~ book, a.k.a. about a protagonist my own age. It has romance and family drama and possibly a small dog. More on that maybe someday??? Stay tuned to this here Kaitlyn Hill newsletter...
Pictured here is my inspiration for writing a small dog into a book. Lilly Hill, world's greatest chihuahua!!
What I'm Reading
A few of my recent favorite reads:
XOXOÂ by Axie Oh - this was a super cute YA romance between a Korean-American girl and a K-pop star! Took me back to my roots......of writing fanfiction about the Jonas Brothers falling for girls who might as well have been named Schmaitlyn. But this book was much better than my efforts okay, buy it here!
THE VISCOUNT MADE ME DO ITÂ by Diana Quincy - historical romance with an Arab heroine who works in London as a "bone setter" and fixes the hero's dislocated shoulder + elbow, then they solve a mystery together, start to fall for each other, etc, good stuff. The funniest part of this book, though, is that I was in the middle of reading it when I had to take my real life romance hero to the ER for a dislocated shoulder and needless to say I would never make it as a bone setter. You can buy the book here!
BATTLE ROYAL by Lucy Parker - a delightful romance by one of my favorite writers, about two hosts on a GBBO-type baking show! They also run rival bakeries, have very conflicting personalities, and are competing to get to make a royal wedding cake, but when you're both hot and want to kiss each other these issues might become less important?? Find out for yourself and buy itttt.
What Else I'm Thinking About
New Kacey Musgraves album coming September 10th! Her entire discography thus far is basically the soundtrack to Love from Scratch! Can't wait for this one to become my whole personality!!!!!
My friend Alanna's podcast called (appropriately to this section of the newsletter) I've Been Thinking! I'm the guest on her episode that comes out Friday, 9/3, and we all get to find out together how ineloquent I am when expressing myself not in writing. ;)
Who I can bully into getting me a Graeter's black raspberry chip ice cream cake for my bday...
Hope that September finds you safe and well!
